Red River Obedience Training Club, Inc.

RULES AND POLICY FOR TRAINING AT RROTC

WELCOME BEGINNERS!!!

Neither your instructor nor any member of this club is paid for their work (we are a non-profit organization) so please give us your full cooperation.

Orientation without your dog is the FIRST requirement for class. For Beginner classes, this is the first of ten classes, with graduation being the tenth (Puppy Kindergarten is a four week class, not including orientation). You will fill out an application, have you dog’s health record checked, have any questions answered and pay the class fee. We accept cash or check (no credit cards, please). There are NO REFUNDS. There will be a $25 service fee for returned checks. If you have adopted your dog from an animal shelter, you must bring proof of adoption to take advantage of the free Beginner class we offer.

FLEAS: We spray often for fleas, but with so many dogs using the facility we recommend some sort of flea control before you come to class. The new “spot on” you can get from your vet works well, or spraying also helps.

Classes will start on time and last one hour. Please try to be on time. If you have to be late try not to create a disruption. If you know you will miss a class, ask your instructor what to work on for that week (there are no individual make up classes).

Dogs that are ill are not to be brought to the club for any reason. Females in season (heat) may not come to class. We recommend you come without your dog, observe the class, and teach your dog the exercises at home.

We recommend only one person train the dog until he has learned the exercise. We do not recommend a child under the age of 12 to train a dog.

DO NOT FEED your dog before working him or coming to class. Bring a bowl and water for you dog, especially in hot weather. There are several bowls at the club and water is available, but your own bowl and water are preferred for your dog’s health.

Exercise your dog for elimination (bathroom) purposes before class and during break. You are expected to clean up after your dog, especially on the grounds of the SPD (across the street from the club). If your dog has an accident in the building OR THE COURTYARD you are expected to clean it up. Paper towels and vinegar are on hand.

Keep your dog close to you at ALL times. Do NOT allow your dog to approach or play with another dog.

We reserve the right to have you muzzle your dog or expel the dog from class if he is uncontrollable.

We recommend comfortable clothes and low heel shoes with soft soles.

Please feel free to ask ANY question of your instructor.

In case of storm warnings or unsafe highways, class will be postponed. We MUST have a phone number where you can be reached so that you can be notified when class has been postponed due to bad weather. Your instructor will tell you the make up date.

CHILDREN are welcome to observe you training your dog; HOWEVER, they must have an additional adult with them for supervision. Children are not allowed to visit other dogs; they are not allowed to play on the stairs, or to run around, or throw toys or balls. We are here to train dogs, not to supply a baby sitter during class time. THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD!

It is the policy of this club that damages or disturbances caused by a child or dog, financial or otherwise, are the sole responsibility of the Parent/Guardian of the child and/or owner of the dog.

Our mutual goal is to make your dog a better companion for you and your family. We do not train your dog. You are expected to spend 10-15 minutes, twice a day, practicing what you are shown in class.
